Kebbi Govt confident banditry is ending soon



Governor Sani Bello Saddened By Recent Bandits Attacks In Niger

The Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Colonel Samaila Yombe Retired, says, with the new strategies at hand, the end of the banditry in the state was at sight.

The Deputy Governor, who made this known while chatting with Journalists at his residence in Birnin Kebbi said, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division of the Nigeria Army, has visited Zuru emirate with a view to restrategize in the fight against banditry.

He said, not quite long about eighty eight people were reported to have been killed by Bandits in eight villages of Dako/Wasagu local government area of the state.

According to him, the state government had also restructured the activities of Yan SaKai (volunteers vigilante) in order to complement the effort of the security agencies.

“The state government did not outlawed the Yan SaKai in the state because they had complied with the new reform carried out in their activities”.

Colonel Yombe, revealed that, the Yan SaKai were restructured by flushing out the lawless among them saying, In the past they did not only take over the duties of the courts but also engaged in extra judicial killings in Zuru axis.

He assured that, alot of effort are being put in place by the state government to ensure that, the state is secured especially with recent banditry attacks in the Southern part of the state.

The Deputy Governor told journalists that, the state government is working closely with the security agencies in ensuring that lives and property are secured.

Shongom residence urged to embrace dialogue

The People of Gombe state particularly residents of Shongom Local government have been called upon to continue to live in peace with one another for the overall development of the state and the Country in general.

This called was made know by a legal practitioner, Barrister Robert Wabida Lenus during an interview with Newsmen in Gombe.

Barrister Robert who was reacting to the recent communal clash between part of Shongom and Filiya District, all in Shongom Local government , described the incident as unfortunate.

While emphasising that dialogue should continue to be the key when there is misunderstanding among the two different communities, he Called on people of Shongom especially youths not to get involved in any violent act.

The legal practitioner also called on Traditional and religious leaders to continue to preach peace and unity, saying that it will go along way in strengthening the peaceful coexistence between the society.

He Commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa for his prompt action and tirelessly effort in resolving issues that have do with security, praying God to Continue to give him wisdom sound knowledge and Good leadership.

It could be Recall that recently there was a crisis between some areas of Shongom and Filiya caused by a dispute over a piece of land that led to the lost of one life and property worth millions of Naira. END

His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has distributed fifty patrol vehicles to security agencies in the State today.

Speaking during the ceremony held at the Government House Bauchi, Governor Bala said the vehicles procured by his administration will assist security agencies perform optimally.

He said the procurement of the vehicles is a testimony of his administration’s concern towards a holistic approach to security challenges in the State.

Governor Bala added that, the vehicles were well equipped with communication gadgets and can access any part of the State.

He said protection of lives and property of the citizens is one of the cordial objectives of his administration, adding that, no society will prosper with increasing number of criminal activities.

Governor Bala appreciated commitment of security agencies in the maintenance of peace in the state and urged them to ensure judicious utilisation of the vehicles.

Also speaking , the Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali, represented by the AIG Federal Operations, Mr Johnson Babatunde Kokumo expressed gratitude to Governor Bala for the gesture and described it as a good tool for enhancing operations for better service delivery.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mohammed Sabiu Baba and the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Marcus Yake appreciated the foresight of the Governor for providing the security agencies with the patrol vehicles.

The occasion had in attendance, the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt Honorable Abubakar Y Suleiman and his Deputy, Dallami Ahmed Kawule, State Chairman of PDP, Hamza Koshe Akuyam, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu among others.

Troops kill IPOB Commander, six others in Imo

Seven suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) have been killed during a joint operation by the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army and Department of State Services in the early hours of Saturday.

Security sources confirmed the incident and said that two other members were also arrested in the joint operation.

Among those killed is one suspected Commander Ikonso, identified as the Vice President-designate of IPOB.

The late IPOB leader was also said to be the coordinator of all the operations of the group in the South-East, including the attack on the Imo Police Headquarters on April 5 and several other attacks on security and military personnel and facilities.

Security operatives were said to have stormed the IPOB’s operational headquarters in Awomamma village, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, where they engaged the gunmen in exchange for fire.

Commander Ikonso, alongside six others of his colleagues, eventually fell to the superior firepower of the security operatives.

Ikonso is said to have carried out series of violent attacks on security personnel and formations in the South-East and South-South of the country.

The operation is part of deliberate efforts by the police and other security forces to quell the activities of insurgents in Imo State and other states of the southeast and South-South region of the country.

Several sophisticated weapons including six AK-47 rifles, hundreds of ammunition of different calibre, and charms meant to ward off bullets were recovered from the gunmen.

However, three policemen and one army officer are said to be receiving treatment having sustained serious bullet injuries during the exchange of gunfire.

Imo State has been experiencing series of attacks of recent with sources blaming the attacks on IPOB.

Inmates sustain injuries as smuggled phone causes crisis




An officer attached to the Bauchi State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) is being interrogated for allegedly smuggling a mobile phone into the custodial centre.

The development resulted into skirmishes between the inmates who were to benefit from the illegal deal and other staff members who bursted the plan.

However, 2 personnel and 5 inmates sustained injuries but have been treated and discharged from the facility’s medical unit.

The restive inmates have also been put under control and the staff involved undergoing investigation as ordered by the State Controller, Isa Sabo Kashuri.

In a statement, the Controller reminded them of the far-reaching implications of smuggling prohibited items particularly mobile phones into custodial centres which, among other things, could lead to riot, jailbreak and the likes.

Police repel attack in Zamfara




Zamfara State Police Command has succeeded in repelling an attack on Yarkala village in Rawayya District of Bungudu Local Government Area by suspected bandits.

The Command Public Relation Officer, SP Muhammad Shehu in a statement noted that, the operatives attached to Operation Puff Adder deployed to Rawayya – Yarkala axis were alerted  about the presence of a large number of bandits moving to Yarkala village on an attack mission.

According the statement, the operatives quickly mobilised and dislodged the bandits, as a result, who fled back to the forest with possible gunshot wounds.

In the course of mopping up the scene, an AK 47 Rifle with breech and a Magazine containing 10 rounds of live ammunition belonging to one of the fleeing bandits was recovered and is now in Police custody.

In a related development, the Zamfara State Police Command in Collaboration with the the Ministry for Security and Home Affairs have secured the unconditional release of eleven kidnapped victims who were taken to a forest near Gobirawan Chali in Maru Local Government Area of the state

Ten out of the eleven kidnapped victims were natives of Kyakyaka, Tungar Haki and Gidan Ango villages of Gusau LGA, while the other victim is from Kaduna State.

The release of the kidnapped victims was part of the ongoing peace process initiated by Governor Bello Matawalle.

All the rescued victims have been debriefed by the Police and handed over to the Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs who will reunite them with their families while investigation regarding the abduction of the victims has commenced.
