RC- Project: Gombe Governor Reiterates Commitment to Partner UNICEF, Others on Youth Empowerment, Girl-child Education
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State says his administration will continue to work in partnership with the United Nations Children Education Fund UNICEF and all relevant agencies in order to address social and economic challenges bedevilling the State especially as it affects youths employment and girl- child education.
The Governor gave this indication during a meeting with stakeholders on the implementation process of of the At- Risk Children Project, ARC- P led by the Special Adviser to the President on Social Investment, Hajiya Maryam Uwais.
Recall that Gombe State Government had this year signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Investment on the At-Risk Children Project, (ARC-P) aimed at complementing the efforts of state government in tackling the menace of out-of-school children and winning the war against societal ills such as drug abuse.
During the stakeholders engagement, which held at the Gombe state Governor’s lodge, Abuja, Governor Inuwa Yahaya commended UNICEF for playing a pivotal role towards the establishment of the Better Education Service Delivery for All BESDA whose objective was to among other things improve literacy through enrollment of out- of school-children.
He said being at the centre of the North East, Gombe State is overwhelmed by the influx of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs from contiguous states of Borno Yobe and Adamawa, noting that it was for this reason that his administration keyed into the ARC- P initiative to curb some of the societal ills and attendant vulnerability and consequences of the centrality of the state.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya informed his guests that with a population of over 3.5 million people and with about 70 to 80 percent of unskilled youths and the rising unemployment rate among the educated ones in the State, every effort has to be explored in order to address the challenges.
He said his administration is ready to work with the United Nations Children Education Fund, UNICEF in whatever capacity in order to address the challenges confronting the girl-child and youths who are vulnerable, describing the situation at the rural areas as alarming and unacceptable. He added that Gombe is ready for the take-off of the ARC- P project.
Governor Yahaya assured that his administration will continue to take all necessary measures, especially in collaboration with development partners and relevant agencies to remedy the situation.
Earlier, Mrs Uwais commended Governor Yahaya’s political will and commitment to the implementation of the ARC- P activities in Gombe state.
She applauded him also for all the steps taken so far by his administration to address socio-economic challenges in the state, assuring of sustained and robust partnership with the government through training and skills development as well as other areas of need.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on human capital development, Barr. Sani Ahmed while giving update on the At-Risk Children Project in Gombe State, said his office has already commenced mainstreaming and profiling of all the activities in the Project, through forming functional clusters.
He said, ” the secretariat as Your Excellency is aware, has been constituted, with Eight (8) members Project Management Team (PMT) and seven (7) members Project Advisory Committee (PAC-as TA’s), their selections cut across various disciplines – ranging from health, Gender/children expert, sports, Horticulture, Science, technology and technical Assistant on Security – All are now fully onboard”.
The Country Representative of UNICEF, Mr. Ibrahim Cisse and the head of Sports Section of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes, UNODC, Mr. Ibenga expressed their agencies’ commitment to the project, even as they commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for showing remarkable interest and leading the way in addressing socio-economic challenges in his state.
They requested for a date for the ground breaking of the ARC- Project in Gombe state and also suggested a preliminary workshop with stakeholders to define eligibility criteria for beneficiaries of the various components of the project in Gombe state which were immediately granted by the Governor.

Zamfara Gov goes tough on bandits
Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mohammed says that his administration will be more decisive in tackling banditry in the state.
He gave assurance that the bandits and their collaborators will receive the wrath of his administration in their own coin.
Governor Bello Mohammed made the disclosure in a state broadcast on Saturday in response to the recent rise in killings by bandits, especially the last one, which claimed 45 innocent lives in Zurmi Local Government Area.
He assured all citizens that his administration will continue to promote peace and tranquility in the state.
Governor Matawalle condoled the families of those who lost their lives and assured that his administration will not fold its arms and allow the wanton killing of innocent citizens to continue unabated.
Njodi gets new traditional title
The Eze Igbo 2 Kaltungo Igwe (Dr) Savastine Uchenna has Confered on the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi a traditional tittle of “NWANNEDINAMBA” NDI IGBO GOMBE STATE.
Presenting the Appointment Letter to Professor Njodi at his Kaltungo Country home Saturday, Igwe Savastine says it is in recognition of the SSG’s Personal leadership qualities and benevolence towards the social- economic development and progress of Ndi Igbo in Kaltungo Chiefdom and Gombe State at large.
According to him “With the Conferment of this title, you have now become one of the members of Igwe’s Council Chiefs and advisers on matters relating to ethnic relations, Peace, Unity and Socio- economic development of Ndi Igbo in Gombe State and beyond”
Igwe Savastine who described Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi as an instrument of peace, use the occasion to commend Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s developmental efforts, especially through the appointment of one of them as Special Adviser as well as the maitainance of peace and security in the State, pledging their total support and loyalty to the Inuwa led administration.
In his acceptance Speech, the Secretary to the State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi says the honour came to him as a surprise and thanked the Igwe for finding him worthy adding that,”I have whole heartedly accepted the honour.
Professor Njodi who call on Nigerians to always leave together as brother says ” I don’t look at People from their religion or tribe but from the perspective of being humans, and that is the way it should be” Njodi noted, Calling on all to imbibe the spirit of oneness and love for a better society.
It will be recalled that the Secretary to the State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi was Confered with a tittle of MAYEGUN” Ambassador of Peace” by OODUA Youth Parliament from the South West Nigeria last week
Deputy Gov applauds Balanga/Billiri Member for empowering constituents
The Gombe state deputy governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau Ph.D has applauded the member representing Balanga/Billiri federal constituency in the national assembly Victor Mela Danzaria for empowering hundreds of his constituents said the essence of seeking an election is to make an impact in the lives of the electorates.
Dr Manassah gave this commendation during the program for the distribution of empowerment items to benefiaries provided by Victor Mela held at Billiri township stadium.
The deputy governor appreciated the member for the giant stride advised the benefiaries to make good use of the items and called on other public office holders to turn back and make an impact in the lives of the common man.
He appreciated the deputy speaker of the house of representative Ahmed Idris Wase for his passion for Gombe state encouraged him to continue supporting anything that will benefit the lives of the people of Gombe State.
In a remark, the deputy speaker house of representative Ahmed Idris Wase commended the people of Balanga/Billiri federal constituency for the wise choice of Mela Danzaria saying that the member is a level headed personality who is always pushing to see his constituency benefits from the federal government’s project.
He assured the people of the area of total support of bill sponsored by Victor Mela seeking the establishment of Federal Medical center in Billiri.
In an address the member representing Balanga/Billiri in the national assembly Victor Mela Danzaria who appreciated his people for making him who he is today, promised to continue doing anything that would change their lives positively.
He said apart from the people who were given empowerment items,there are two hundred others who will be given twenty thousand naira each, this is apart from empowerment training given to many others.
Other speakers at the event includes the speaker Gombe state house of Assembly Muhammad Abubakar Luggerewo, Usman Bello Kumo and several other members of national assembly who graced the occasion, told the people of the area to continue supporting Victor Mela as he is always working to see their lives improved.
Some of the items distributed include tricycles, motorcycles, sawing machines, electric generators, water pump generators and cash.

Niger Gov’t committed to prioritising Education Sector
Niger state government says it will continue to commit substantial amount of it’s resources for the development of education in view of it’s importance as veritable tool for socio economic development of the state.
Niger state Governor Alh Abubakar Sani Bello announced this while declaring opened a two day round table discussion on revamping basis education in Niger state held in Minna.
Represented by the Deputy Governor Ahmed Mohd Ketso Governor Bello noted that Niger state Government is not unaware that despite the desire passion and the will to develop education there are several challenges bedeviling access and funding issues.
Alh Abubakar Sani Bello however explained that the state government is not resting on it’s oars in ensuring that appropriate policies and programmes are put in place to fix education in the state particularly basic sector.
This he said accounted for the reason that since the coming of his administration they have succeeded in clearing backlog of UBE matching grant from twenty thirteen to first quarter of twenty nineteen towards improving access and ensure conducive learning environment.
Commissioner of Education Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin Salihu apart from applauding Governor Abubakar Sani Bello for his effort at revamping the education sector also called for collective efforts by all and sundry to succeed.
In his keynote address Executive Chairman Niger state Universal Basic Education Board Dr Isa Adamu said the Board underpinned the need to galvanised for support from all segment of education stakeholders with a view to obtaining their support and participation in developing a road map that will give lasting solution towards addressing their problems.
Dr Isa Adamu maintained that the UBE programme is community based and stakeholders driven in nature and therefore requires collective approach for it’s successful implementation.
A total of 14 bills were passed in the last two years – Kwara Assembly
Kwara State House of Assembly says it has in the last two legislative years passed a total of 14 Bills.
The House under the same period considered also 29 Reports while 32 Motions were moved with resolutions passed on them.
The Speaker of the House, Engr Yakubu Danladi-Salihu stated this during a special plenary marking the second anniversary of the 9th legislature in the state.
Danladi-Salihu said, the lawmakers have always ensured that consideration and passage of all money Bills , especially, the appropriation Bills conformed with the yearnings of the people.
According to him the House has also ensured that all Bills and other legislative functions affecting key sectors such as health, education, social security, youth employment and job creation,among others received the desired attention.
Danladi -Salihu noted that the House did not leave provision of infrastructure solely in the hands of the Executive.
He explained that members also facilitated construction of classrooms and health facilities, sinking of boreholes, opening of rural roads in their various constituencies under the Grassroots Development Project of the present administration.END
